Two decades ago, another rich and royal family member was born; to say royal isn't quite as accurate today as it would have been two centuries ago. The Courtwaters still maintained a lofty and respected prescence in Kalos, although through stocks and high-profile events like many of the other wealthy elite. Indeed, seems things like they would maintain this status quo until the marriage of the main heir to the fortune to someone off in Kanto.

While marriage is a prim, proper, and beautiful thing, the loss of a lifeline was another. Oliver Courtwater would find that, in the next year to come after their son arrived, he would find himself an uncle to the next-in-line. Adela was just a few months shy of a birthright - the vast majority and title wealth of the family fortunes - and while her loving parents couldn't have been any happier, there was always an odd taste around those words.

Adela Charlotte Courtwater was raised within the confines of perfection. She was given the best medical care, tutors, and lifestyle in order to sculpt her growth into that of a model heiress; a beauty in the public eye that was graceful as she was dominant in the social chain. A gentle hand with a harder backhand, and a scholar with a bit of lawyer within. As anyone could imagine, while this was a luxurious life, it was also one that accounted for a great deal of stress and challenge.

Adela enjoyed the ability to grow; she had and still has a curiosity that never ceases. However, being expected to develop into your parent's curiosity instead of your own is something of a setback. Sure, some of it was nice - she took to fencing like a fish in the water, she bothered to learn to cello (while playing it is still odd to her, she enjoys reading music itself), and learning to charm total strangers was a fun experience. The stress of expectations and social pressure continued to well up and build.

As the heiress-in-line that lived in Kalos, Adela was expected to keep up her social appearances as such; she was forced to go to every major public event her parents could drag her into, for better or for worse. For all the people of Kalos cared, Adela was the poster child of the future of the family.

Private tutoring grew more. She was given her first set of Pokemon - a Lileep and a Cranidos - by one of her tutors, shortly after her sweet sixteen, as she 'graduated' her basic courses in Pokemon League rules and battles. From there, it was all up; while her family merely saw her Pokemon studies as part of her required self defense, Adela saw it as escapism. With her Pokemon, she didn't have to represent old money and be a pretty face for the paparazzi and rivals and friends; she was a human with allies that could pit herself against another trainer, with nothing else in the background.

The ideas planted and stuck, and soon her parents began to groom her for... things. Talks changed from running one of the many businesses and managing the old wealth to suitors and travelling regions to make more appearances. She couldn't go through with that. Through monetary gain and trade, she procured a Geodude and Rhyhorn, sealing the deal.

A packed bag(s) and a climb over a wall later, and Adela was using her private funds to hide her identity and sneak out into Kalos for a bit. She gave her folks a call from a disposable phone - a voicemail - to let them know she was one hundred percent fine and that she would talk to them soon; and then she was off.

Shortly after, she secured a boat into Johto; the further she could get from her identity, the better.
