The sunlight cascaded down through the glass roof of the Celadon City Gym and reflected off the bubbling brook flowing through the grassy expanse that served as the Gym's official battlefield. A Vileplume, Sally, twirled around the flowers at the edge of the field as her trainer, a young woman named Heather Brion continued to put the finishing touches on her new Pokemon Gym. "Vile! Vileplume! Vile!" Sally sang. "That's right, hon!" Heather answered with her usual enthusiasm, "We're almost done and then we'll be ready for our first gym battle. But this time's different. This time it's our turn to teach."
As Heather pushed down the soft earth she'd been using to plant her flower beds, a Grovyle, Amara, lept from one of the battlefield's many trees to land near Heather. Heather rubbed her hands together to remove the dirt and wiped the sweat from her forehead before giving Amara a giant hug. "Grow, Grovyle!" Amara shouted in excitement. "I know! I'm glad for the new start too old friend!" Heather agreed. ""It'll be great to see how things are on the other side of the battlefield for a change." Content with her work in the Gym's gardens, Heather walked to the front door and looked out at Celadon City. "We're going to make a lot of new friends here, you two," Heather told her partners and they responded happily, "You can count on that!"
All that was left was to put up a sign in front of the Gym: "Welcome to the Celadon City Gym! Open Friday-Monday on official business, but feel free to stop by for a battle between friends anytime!"

Life at the Pokemon League was too boring. The same thing happened every day. Hopeful trainers would blaze through, she'd beat them down (or get beat down and chase them into the next room), somebody would tell her to put the swords away, rinse and repeat. It was why Beatrice put in an official request for a two-week vacation, where she could get her fill of adventure before settling back into the daily grind. Her first stop was where she grew up.
She hesitated to call it her hometown. Home implied there was somewhere or some people to go back to. The condo she grew up in was occupied by someone else now, and with her siblings elsewhere, it wasn't really home. Her hometown were the routes and roads she slept on, cuddled up between Kage and Sakura, clutching the building case of badges for her life.
Bee stands in front of the gym, accompanied by her watchful Greninja. Here she was, coming full circle, visiting one of the first gyms she beat as a trainer, now as an elite. She could tell Kage remembered it. The way he flinched at the door sliding open was proof.
"Oy, you!"
The elite points an accusing finger at the woman who just emerged from the gym. Kage's eyes flick to ensure his trainer isn't doing something dumb. Bee sets a hand on her sheathed katana's handle, and Kage palms his face.
"Where's the gym leader around here? I gotta give 'em a good welcome to the league!" She's all smiles as she shouts. This vacation's gonna be great.

As Heather left the Gym to get a better grasp of the city, she saw a mysterious stranger point at her and ask where the Gym Leader could be found. Overwhelming joy flooded over Heather as she thought she'd come face o face with her first challenger! She felt herself slipping int her usual bought of awkwardness. " AHH!" Heather shouts excitedly, " You must be here to challenge me! This is so wonderful! My first challenger is an actual ninja!" Heather rushed towards the newcomer and looks at the other girl's katana in uncontrolled wonder. Heather walks circles around the girl, examining her from every angle. After a few minutes, Heather suddenly realizes something. " Oh gosh! I'm sorry! My name's Heather," Heather explained in a breathless rush. " Heather Brion! I'm the new Celadon City Gym Leader you've been looking for! And what's the name of my very first challenger?" Beatrice Roux

Why, yes, she was the first person to challenge this new gym leader! And she was going to provide a good, clean fig--did she just call her a ninja?
"Did you just call me a ninja." It's a flat statement, punctuated by Bee's unimpressed stare and crossed arms. Even Kage was surprised at the name, leaning back and blinking to ensure his perceptions weren't messed up. Things just got weirder when the supposed leader walked around and sized her up like a piece of rainbow meat. Beatrice self-consciously dusted a bit of dirt off her shoulder and adjusted her belt.
The study went on for an awkwardly long time, even for her. Just as she was about to make some snarky comment about taking a picture, the girl snapped out of it. "The name's Bee," she replied, grabbing Heather's hand and shaking it firmly, "I'm not here to challenge you, just a friendly battle to see how things're run around here, you know?" Though her appearance was rather distinct, this girl didn't immediately recognize her as a member of the Elite 4, so she purposely omitted that information. Maybe she'd be more confident about a random challenger.
She straightened up and gave Kage a good pat on the back. The Greninja didn't flinch. "So what, you wanna do it out here or in there?" asked the elite, "'cause this guy's ready for battle whenever you are."
"Grenn," he deadpans.

As the girl introduced herself to Heather as Bee, Heather continued to get more and more anxious for her first battle in the new Gym... and of her own mistake. " I-I'm sorry," Heather stammered as she bowed her head apologetically, " I did not mean to offend. And sorry to you as well if the term 'ninja' wasn't to your liking," Heather addressed the Greninja.. Heather couldn’t help but think she recognized this trainer, but couldn’t quite place why. Sure she wasn’t here for an official gym battle, but a friendly battle would still help break in the new terrain. “ We can battle inside!” Heather blurted out as she almost ran headlong into the automatic door. “ Alright! How does one on one with two Pokemon each sound?” Heather called to her opponent as she ran to the opposite side of the Gym around all the trees raising from the soft earth. The bubbling brook divides the field into two sections, and Heather’s hiking boots splashed through the water as she charged to take her starting position. Sally twirled her way towards Heather, taking a seat at her trainer’s side. Meanwhile, Amara leapt from the trees to take her own place alongside her friends. “ So what do say Bee?” Beatrice Roux

Polite and able to admit when she messed up. Beatrice thought the girl needed a little more blinding pride in her own abilities, but the league admins probably appreciated a humble leader. Bee held up a strand of her rainbow hair and raised an eyebrow. "Do I look like a ninja to you?" Kage, meanwhile, shrugged the apology off. No harm done.
The pair hurried after the exuberant gym leader, Beatrice with much more enthusiasm than the fast walking Greninja. On her side of the field, Bee stuck her hands in her pockets, and observed the area. The trees towering above them would be good cover for Kage, but a fire hazard for Inu, and as much as she loved a good explosion, she didn't want her first interaction with a new leader to involve extensive property damage. It would be interesting to see how she dealt with a type advantage, as well. She glanced to the frog at her side. He nodded.
"Sounds good to us," she announced, grinning. Beatrice cracked her knuckles and gave her partner a good nudge. With a noise that could almost be described as a sigh, he stepped into the battlefield. Just before placing foot in the brook, he crouched into a fighter's stance, one hand braced against the ground. "I'm keeping my second a secret for now, so, your move." Beatrice stretched her arms out lazily. "I wanna see how you fight."

“ Ah! So you’re Greninja’s up first hmm?” Heather mused as she sized up her opponent. “ Think you’ve got this Amara?” Heather asks her partner. “ Grow! Grooovyle!” Amara cheered. “ Alright! Amara! I CHOOSE YOU!!” Heather shouted in exuberantly. Amara leapt from her place at Heather’s side and scaled the nearest tree. As she stood, balanced on the thickest branch, Amara eyed her grounded opponent. The leaves jutting out of Amara’s arms glowed a bright green hue as she readied herself for battle, yet she remained still, as if waiting for her foe to make the first move. “ Alright Bee! Let’s have our Pokemon give it their all!” Heather shouted across the battlefield. Beatrice Roux

A Grovyle, huh? Being one of the first few gyms in the region, Beatrice figured the leader would be facing weaker trainers, but to not use a fully evolved Pokemon was still strange, in her opinion. Kage thought it was odd, as well; he raised a brow at the choice and sized up his opponent.
"Good luck to you, too," grinned Beatrice. Ahh, the enthusiasm of beginners was always wonderful. She adjusted her belt of Pokeballs. Kage glanced back, looking for some kind of leadership. With Bee's nod, he leaped into the air.
"Kage, start off with the usual."
"Gre!"
The Greninja spread his arms out at the highest point of his jump. Caltrops spread all over the battlefield and forest from under his arms, the spiky points littering the ground. Anybody that set foot in the arena would have to keep a close eye on the flooring to avoid piercing their foot. It was nothing to the frog; Kage landed perfectly on one foot in the middle of all them, palms pressed together. His gaze flicked towards the Grovyle, daring her to move.

“ Spikes,” Heather thought. “ Interesting choice.” Amara continued to stare at her opponent from her raised vantage point, waiting for a command, yet knowing exactly what she and Heather had both been thinking. “ Remember our first battle in the Sinnoh league, Amara?” Heather called to her partner. Amara’s eyes glint in excitement, she remembered. A soft wind blew through the arena, stirring the leaves in the trees. As the winds grew stronger and stronger, leaves started to separate themselves from the tree tops and swirled around Amara as she commanded them to do her bidding. As the Leaf Storm grew in size it descended to the ground to pummel Amara’s foe. As the winds continued to grow ever stronger and leaves tore towards the Greninja, the spikes littering the ground swirled in the harsh wind and took flight in tandem with the leaves as they rushed towards the Greninja.
