Click, click, click, click, tack! "Pika... Chuuu!!!"
A Pokeball on a brown dresser began vibrating as a toy Pikachu poped out, raising its arms out with a wide smile on its face. A confused mumble from the one covered in purple bed sheets could be heard being muffled under the massive comforters. The woman under the blankets tried to cover her ears, but the more time went, the louder Pikachu screamed, and the more the clock vibrated. A loud groan later and the sheets were thrown off of her who self and she kicked her feet to the side of the bed onto the floor. The messy locks of hair covered the teen's face before her hand reached out to do the nearly impossible... shut that Pikachu up. It was built to keep her from going back to bed. But the question was, why was it beeping?
Penelope Rushburrow, the girl getting out of bed, was almost certain that she'd turned it off several days ago. It hadn't been beeping lately, and since she had no recent events in the near future, nor did she remember setting up the alarm, there should have been no reason for the clock to ring. And then her door swung open...
...And it all suddenly made sense.
"Penelope!" Her father called from the door, earning a groan from the already grumpy teen. For the record, she didn't like Penelope, she went by Penny. You want to make her mad? Forget that fact, and you'll have to do something impressive for her to get into a good mood. The man wrapped his arms around his daughter, earning a scoff from his daughter. "Good to see you awake! Sorry, your mother and I set up your alarm so that you could be up bright and early!" The teen was too tired to tell, but the man seemed to slur his words a bit. Not quite in a drunken way, but it almost seemed like he hadn't slept in quite a while. "We made you a nice breakfast down stairs, just to show you how much we love you! We didn't want you to miss out because you decided to sleep in. Because, after all, who needs sleep anyway?" He did. Obviously.
"Ugh..." Penny found herself getting out of her room, eyes so squinted she hardly knew where she was. But with some coaxing from her father, the teen found herself on her feet and walking to the door. The usually talkative teen would've been talking her father's ear off, but calling her Penelope put her at such bad odds with him that she found herself far too angry to even speak to him at this moment. Which was quite the feat in and of itself. This fact alone might've given the man hope to cheer the emotional teen up if his brain was functional.
Coming down the stairs, the pair were met with an equally exhausted woman, who almost seemed to be on the verge of falling asleep on the spot. Just as her father told her, there was a nice looking breakfast waiting for her, and hopefully the entire family because there was no way she was eating all of it herself. Eggs, pancakes, sausages, toast. If you can think of it, it was there. Yep. Her parents were crazy. What time did they even get up to do all of this?
Or, better question, why did they get up to do all this? It wasn’t her birthday, it wasn’t Christmas. As far as she knew they weren’t going anywhere special, it was just a normal Saturday morning. Well, as normal as it could be, since she’d still be asleep at this time if it really was a normal Saturday. Letting out a yawn, Penny sat down and had a rather awkward breakfast with her family. Mostly because everyone was too tired to get into discussion, but also partially because Penny was still holding a grudge on the whole Penelope thing.
Maybe she was crazy…
Regardless, the family, that is Penny and her parents, went to the living room and sat on the couch. The mother and father suddenly had a hard time controlling their excitement, again for reasons Penny herself was unaware of. Without a single word between either of them because it seemed like the moment either of the parents would say anything they would explode, and it made her incredibly nervous.
Her father clicked the TV on to try and calm himself and his wife down, and probably distract Penny even more so. It worked in both aspects, and her mother was finally able to sneak out of the room, instructing him to keep Penny distracted. They were giggling like teenagers, which ironically kept their daughter’s attention away because she thought they might’ve been flirting or something. Luckily, his job was really easy. As a young woman, she remained thoroughly distracted by whatever it was playing on the screen. Particularly, whenever there were no commercials, a show of performances of dancers.
Finally, after some time without incident, her mother returned, and she waved at him. Admittedly it took a few waves in order to get his attention since the television had that way of grabbing people’s attention. But she managed to get his attention instead of hers, and he narrowly avoided a frustrated wife. A toothy smile spread on his face and the man cleared his throat. “Uh, Penny,” he said, grabbing the attention of his daughter, who now had forgotten her little grudge. “We have something for you.”
Penny looked over to her mother, who was beyond herself with excitement, and her jaw dropped at the sight. Penny was on her feet in an instant, and she slowly made her way to her mother, completely enthralled by the thing in her arms. Looking around the room, was a wide eyed Eevee. There was nothing but silence. Clicking noises could be heard as the girl continued to be speechless. Her mouth moved in a desperate attempt to speak and she reached out to pick up the stoic Pokemon and cradled her in her arms. Finally, she was able to speak, though her voice and her whole form shaking. “I get to keep this, right?”
