Bree was born in the quiet village of Seafolk within the Alola region. She was the third child of her parents Arther and Josephine McAllister, having two older brothers named Marcus and Adrian and a few years later a younger sister named Nami. Her family had resided in Alola for around five generations and would rarely travel to any other region or even mention them, leaving Alola as the only world she knew until for the first time she saw the city of another region upon her TV. However, she was content with this life that she led and did not want to leave the region either, planning to stay and help take over the family's floating restaurant. The thought had not even occurred until one night she overheard an argument between Marcus and her parents.

While going to fetch some water one night, she heard screaming originating from another room. When she eavesdropped into the argument, she overheard her brother's desire to escape the family business and rather visit other regions. Eventually, the argument would lead to her parents threatening to disown her brother before his angered response and the slamming of doors. The next morning, Bree asked where Marcus was as he was no longer sitting down on the table. Her parents simply told her not to worry about it and that he would be back soon, although the looks on their faces expressed regret and worry.

Months passed and Marcus did not return home, leaving the family worried. However, upon consulting the neighbors they learned that a neighbor had taken him to Hau'oli City after he requested and paid him to do so. The truth slowly revealed themselves to the family, her brother had left the Alolan region and they did not know where he was any longer. A few days after this revelation the children learned of what happened to their brother and the fact they would most likely never see him again. Bree herself was confused and conflicted as she had also begun to miss her brother. They apologized to their children, regretting the idea of forcing up a destiny that they would not want them and allowed them to do as they pleased, breaking the family taboo of moving to another region.

Her brother's departure never left Bree's mind and begun to spark a thought. She had always believed she wanted to take over the family business as she grown older but now she had realized that it wasn't her dream but rather a duty she believed she was required to take. But in fact, she had no dream. In an effort to gain a dream she began to learn about as many different hobbies as possible.

At first, she tried coordinating, playing contest with her parents' Pokemon although she found herself enjoying to perform for others, she eventually did not believe it fit her. Breeding also led to a dead end as she found it too difficult for her to comprehend. After awhile she found that she had a passion, music. Due to this, she had originally believed that she wanted to become a performer. As each eleven years old would be able to compete in the island challenge, Bree herself would do so as well, simply thinking of it as a way to test out what it would be like to be a Pokemon trainer

Upon her eleventh birthday, she received two Pokemon. A Popplio from the island kahuna and an egg from her parents which would turn out to be a Ralts. At first, Bree was ready to quit the challenge, frustrated when she wasn't able to even defeat the first totem Pokemon in a battle. However just as she was ready to call it quits the trial captain began to give her advice. She told Bree about the basics of battle and even helped train her. Upon trying it again, she found herself capable of defeating the island challenge. She would soon grow to become good friends with the captain as she took on more trials and eventually the island's grand challenge. Upon defeating them, Bree found herself inspired to become a Fairy type trainer just like her friend was and begun to do so.

Despite all the challenges she would face, she would take down each trial one by one until she found herself completing the challenge. For the first time, Bree realized that she wanted to become a professional Pokemon trainer more than she wanted to become a performer. After returning home, she began to research about other regions. At first, she thought other regions had their own versions of the island challenge and to her surprised, that's when she learned about gym leaders and Elite Four. Deciding to take on one of the gym challenges, Bree would begin by traveling to Kanto. This time when she revealed her plans of leaving Alola to her parents they fully supported her, unwilling to lose another family member. A few weeks later Bree found herself upon a ferry departing for Kanto while she waved farewell to her parents.

After arriving at Kanto, Bree began by challenging the gym leaders. She found them noticeably more difficult than the island challenge but eventually she would finally make her way to the Elite Four. However, she found herself unable to even defeat the first member. After failing to defeat the first member three times, Bree became discouraged, convinced she was not fit to become a trainer. She had decided to take a boat back to Alola and had almost done so until she felt a hand on her shoulder just as she was about to enter the building. Turning around she found it was Marcus. He convinced her to at least stay for a few more days and invited her out for dinner that night.

When he asked why she was in Kanto despite the family tradition Bree told him everything: from the aftermath of his departure to her success with the island trial and eventually her dream. After listening to what she had to say, Marcus decided to help train her, an offer she accepted, although she had her doubts that he would be able to do so. To her surprise, he had turned out to be a skilled trainer and his words allowed her to become better. When she asked how he became so adept at Pokemon battling he simply told her that he also had challenged the Pokemon League before he lost against the Champion. However, the training that he offered did not last weeks or months but rather years. Rather than challenging the Elite Four through these years, she instead went to Johto and challenged their gym leaders in order to get stronger. Bree was fifteen before she challenged the Elite Four and this time was able to get to find the final position before she lost narrowly. However, she was no longer discouraged and determined to become stronger.

However her strength and determination were not left unnoticed as the member she was unable to defeat offered some more advice, even teaching her some tricks which she accepted it. However, by the time she turned sixteen, Bree did not wish to challenge the league anymore but rather simply work on her battling skills. Deciding to return home for Alola instead of the small visits she would take, she soon found that she was not alone as Marcus also accompanied her home, although he would only visit. It was a joyous moment when her parents saw their son once more as Bree had not told them about Marcus due to his request. After relaxing back at home for around a year she received a message from the Elite Four member she learned advice from. They had told her that they were going to retire and wanted Bree to succeed them. Accepting this offer, she would once more return back to the Kanto region where she would live with her brother until she was able to truly find a place to stay.
